For more than 30 years, Médecins du Monde, a campaigning medical organisation committed to international solidarity, has been caring for the most vulnerable populations at home and abroad. It has continued to highlight obstacles that exist in accessing health care and has secured sustainable improvements in health-for-all policies. Those working for this independent organisation do not solely dispense care and treatment but condemn violations of human dignity and rights and fight to improve matters for populations living in precarious situations. MdM currently works in 40 countries across all continents where it focuses on 4 priority areas: caring for the health of migrants and displaced persons, promoting sexual and reproductive health, combating HIV and reducing the harm and risks associated with drug use, crises and conflicts.

I - Mission context

Médecins du Monde (MdM) has been working in Balkans for many years. In Serbia, in particular, MdM worked from 2001 to 2009, in a Risk Reduction program targeting people involved in drug abuse. Recently, MdM has returned to Serbia to provide health access to migrants transiting through Serbia and Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM. Direct support to vulnerable migrant populations include, among others, the provision of health services through the mobile clinics and delivery of much-needed information to migrants pertaining to their rights and access to available health services within the vicinity of their current location. 

II- Main aims of the post

Under the supervision of the Medical coordinator and the Mobile Clinic Medical Doctor, the Mobile Clinic Nurse will be responsible for the following main activities in order to ensure the quality of care in the mobile clinics:

  • Take part to the drug and medical equipment management
  • Realization of the patients triage, registration and taking vital signs
  • Realization of paramedics acts 
  • Implementation of health education sessions
  • Collection, computerization and analysis of weekly epidemiological dataReporting and attendance to different meetings

III- Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Take part to the drug and medical equipment management
    • Prepare all the necessary drugs, material and equipment for mobile clinics and ensure that everything is ready before to leave MdM office
    • Keep always the nurse tools clean and organized
    • Ensure the cleaning and sterilisation of dressing material on a daily basis
    • Take part to the drugs and equipment follow-up and order
  • Realization of the patients triage, registration and taking vital signs
    • Take weight, temperature and BP for all the patients who have been registered
    • Identify medical emergencies and refer them immediately to the medical doctor
    • Conduct MUAC Screening to children 0-59 months old
    • Ensure pregnant, old people, very sick, and children are prioritized in the queue
    • Ensure that the queue is organized according to priorities, emergency cases and first come, first served basis
    • Ensure patient confidentiality is respected and treat all the patients with respect and dignity
    • Ensure proper registration of the patients and confidentiality of the data
  • Realization of paramedics acts
    • Follow the basic medical rules of hygiene when performing paramedics acts
    • Realize rapid diagnostic tests and urine dipstick tests to the patients according to necessity and/or prescription.
    • Make dressings according to MdM protocols
    • Do injections according to necessity and/or prescription
  • Implementation of health education sessions
    • Provide the health education sessions to the patients in the different waiting areas
    • Spread main messages about the health education for the following topics: hygiene, immunization, antenatal care, post-natal care, assisted delivery, family planning, ARI, diarrhea or any other relevant topics
  • Collection, computerization and analysis of weekly epidemiological data
    • Perform the daily data collection regarding paramedics acts 
    • Participate to the weekly computerization and analysis of the paramedics data
    • Ensure confidentiality/privacy of data collected
  • Reporting and attendance to different meetings
    • Prepare a weekly activities report to submit to Medical Doctor
    • Participate in a pro-active way to MdM internal and coordination external meetings 
    • Participate to the capacity-building activities organized by MDM according to the needs
    • Participate to the loading and unloading of the vehicles and to the setting up of the mobile clinics
    • Participate to the weekly physical inventory of mobile clinic pharmacy
  • Others
    • Participate in the loading and unloading of materials to be used in the mobile clinics from the vehicles 
    • Ensure that the mobile clinics are properly set-up in the area of work
    • Ensure that proper signage were put up in the mobile clinic work stations
    • Ensure proper disposal of wastes form the mobile clinics
    • Perform other tasks as identified by the Medical Doctor and Medical Coordinator

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE NEEDED:

You will be committed to MdM’s values and be motivated by its non-statutory, Not-For-Profit model

  • Nurse or Midwife degree/diploma recognized by Serbian Ministry of Health
  • At least 3 years of post-qualification experience in nursing
  • A previous experience with an NGO would be an asset 
  • Ability to deal with emotionally charged and pressured situations
  • Psychological support background
  • Health Education background
  • Be flexible and under standing
  • Good communication skills
  • Basic computing skills
  • Willing to work in flexible hours and live in a basic living conditions as needed
  • Fluent English and Serbian are Mandatory
  • Arabic and/or Farsi would be an asset
