Position title:       WWF Adria-Serbia Project Officer

Reports to:           WWF Adria Freshwater Program Manager

WWF is one of the world’s leading non-governmental and non-profit organizations for nature conservation. WWF Adria is representing WWF within the countries of Western Balkans with approximately 60 employees. It operates through a WWF Adria office in Zagreb (Croatia), WWF Adria-Serbia office in Belgrade, and partner organizations and consultants within the rest of the region. To implement its conservation goals WWF Adria operates in the structure of different programmes (Marine, Freshwater, Protected Areas & Governance and Wildlife) which are contributing to protection of different ecosystems or to the enforcement of governance of protected areas within the Protected Areas & Governance Programme.

We are looking for one candidate for position: Project Officer, this position could be based in Belgrade or Novi Sad or Sombor or Apatin or Odžaci or Bač or Bačka Palanka.

 

I. Project description

lifelineMDD (Interreg Danube Transnational Programme 2014-2020) aims to support restoration and conservation of the planned 5-country Transboundary Biosphere Reserve Mura-Drava-Danube (further in the text TBR MDD). Ecological connectivity is reduced due to human interferences on rivers, their floodplains and natural processes. lifelineMDD addresses these issues with a cross-sectoral partnership, aiming to improve connectivity and biodiversity within the TBR MDD by restoration of natural river dynamics. Strategic integrated approach to river restoration, based on scientific studies will be developed in cooperation of NGOs, nature protection and water management authorities.

Planned project duration: 01.08.2020 - 31.12.2022.

 

II. Major Functions:

  1. Implements project activities according to project application form and workplan;
  2. Maintains and develops partnerships and stakeholder engagement according to project workplan and requirements;
  3. Responsible for smooth project implementation in WWF Adria-Serbia (including reporting, sub-contracting and other project manager duties);
  4. In addition, implements programme activities, maintains and develops partnerships and stakeholder engagement according to programme workplan;
  5. Supports monitoring and reporting at the programme level;
  6. Supports fundraising for WWF Adria programme unit.

 

III. Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the lifelineMDD educational work package and is responsible for development and implementation of the teachers & guides training on the TBR MDD level (Austria, Slovenia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia) while supported from the lifelineMDD partners side for logistical and organisational issues;
  • Lead development of education programs and materials;
  • Engage and regularly communicate with lifelineMDD Project Manager from WWF Austria, WWF Adria TBR MDD lead, and WWF Adria - Serbia colleagues responsible for education;
  • Engage, support and regularly communicate with the WWF Adria - Serbia project staff (Project Administrator, Project Climate Change Advisor & Communication Officer)
  • Engage and regularly communicate with lifelineMDD partners in order to insure implementation of the education activities in the scope of the project;
  • Engage and regularly communicate with relevant institutional stakeholders;
  • Participates in project QB, SC meetings, study visits and project workshops;
  • Prepares project reports after each project period in coordination with the Project Administrator and Communication Officer (5 reports until the end of the project);
  • Owner of the project budget; participate in budgetary and administrative tasks (e.g. relationship with suppliers, reporting);
  • Leads on procurement procedures (content wise), while Project Administrator is responsible to ensure all relevant procedures are followed;
  • Provide assistance (technical input) in the preparation of communication material for programme officer (communication).

 

IV. Profile:

Required Qualifications:

  • University degree in in the broad area of environmental science, natural resources science, environmental law, environmental education or related fields;
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in EU funded projects implemented in the region.

 

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Basic knowledge of Monitoring & Evaluation systems at the programme level and programme administration (budgeting, administration procedures);
  • Basic knowledge of the geography, societies, economies, politics and pertinent issues of conservation and development within the programme’s scope;
  • A good level of computer literacy, especially word-processing, budget and spreadsheet preparation, database record systems, electronic mail;
  • Fluent oral and written Bosnian/Croatian/Montenegrin/Serbian and good English communication skills are required;
  • Excellent pedagogical skills, relationship management, interpersonal communication and presentation skills;
  • Good organizational, administrative, multitasking and prioritization skills;
  • Team player and ability to take initiative;
  • An ability to work under pressure, within diverse and multinational partnership and meet deadlines;
  • Understanding and applying WWF social and environmental safeguards.
