Research Scientist

The scientist will support the development and deployment of molecular breeding in maize in Continental Europe Evaluation Zone for the 70 – 108 RM maturities.

Responsibilities include hands-on statistical and genetic analysis, training on new tools, field experimentation, and appropriate precision phenotyping. The position will work with maize breeders to develop strategies for identifying the underlying genetic factors responsible for the traits important to the breeding program and share genetic information across the breeding organization. The role will perform administrative tasks related to estimation of demand, management of resources and control the usage of these resources within an expected timeline by effectively working on a multi-departmental group.

The position requires a PhD. in plant breeding with an emphasis in the areas of genetics and molecular genetics. 2-4 years of directly applied research experiences in plant breeding and quantitative/population genetics is preferable. Demonstrated excellence in the management, analysis, and interpretation of scientific data is appreciated.

Applied computer skills including statistical analysis and an interest to learn varied and moderately complex applications are required.

Preference will be shown for candidates with strong communicational skills, proven ability to work well in a team environment and coordinate research efforts across groups/departments. 

Very good written and oral communication skills in English are essential, basic Hungarian knowledge is desirable.
