POSITION SUMMARY:
IREX Serbia seeks a Media and Information Literacy Curriculum and Capacity Building Expert (hereinafter “MIL Expert”) manager to oversee day-to-day curriculum development and training design and implementation for in-service and pre-service teacher training institutes under its Learn to Discern media and information literacy program in Serbia. The MIL Expert will work closely with trainers and other technical experts/education sector stakeholders; hold responsibility for coordination of work of trainers, teachers, etc.; and serve as a point of contact for training and curriculum related questions. The position could be part-time or full-time, in Belgrade or a remote home-based position within Serbia, Albania, or elsewhere in the Balkans.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Leads team of consultants to adapt and develop L2D curriculum for Serbia/Balkans context
- Oversees accuracy of translation work in other languages and appropriateness of local contexts
- Provides and solicits feedback to/from Trainers and citizens about curriculum
- Provide technical input and oversee the adaptation of L2D-Schools training materials and curricula for pre- and in-service teacher training institutes in Ukraine and conduct/oversee trainings for beneficiaries
- Oversee coordination of training events, including material design and printing, venues, catering, participant travel, and other logistics, ensuring that objectives and targets are met on time and within budget
- Potentially establish and lead the work of Education Working Group members, tasked with adapting the L2D-S curriculum for pre- and in-service teacher training institutes
- Track and analyze work-plan activity progress toward project objectives
- Work closely with IREX monitoring & evaluation staff to track and analyze project indicator data, ensuring effective monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of program activities
- Stay up to date with developments and the latest research related to disinformation, media and information literacy, and critical thinking
- Interact regularly with opinion leaders, government officials, educators, school administrators, trainers, civil society and media groups, and other program stakeholders
- Develop and maintain effective collaborations with program partners
- Supply technical assistance in relevant areas of expertise
- Other duties as assigned
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- At least 2 years of training and/or training program oversight, with experience in Serbia strongly preferred
- Native Serbian speaker with strong background of development context in Serbia
- Experience with media and media literacy training preferred
- Must understand information literacy and disinformation threats
- Advanced degree preferred
- At least 2 years’ experience designing and/or conducting training programs for educators (experience with secondary school educators strongly preferred)
- Successful track record of supervising, designing, managing, and implementing donor-funded projects, with strong preference for past media development or media literacy project management experience
- Excellent communications skills, including ability to make public presentations
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and complete tasks/projects in accordance with stated deadlines
- Familiarity with education, political, economic, and social issues in Serbia
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Strong command of spoken/written Serbian or Albanian and English is required
- Ability to occasionally travel throughout the Balkans
