Ball Corporation is currently looking for a motivated and nimble person for the position: Operational Risk Director – Aerosol Division

Primary Purpose of the Position:

The main purpose of the role is to develop and implement strategic risk management policy for Ball Aerosol Packaging division, implement associated management systems and to promote positive risk management activities throughout the organization. The role will be accountable for the development and implementation of capability, programs and systems to reduce the physical risks involved with company operations, for embedding the Operation's risk management activities within the regular business of the company and for the development of the Operation's risk management reporting systems.

Essential Responsible Areas:

  • Strategic development of risk management policy and programs in the division.
  • Leads the development and the deployment/execution of the annual EHS plan for the division in conjunction with the divisional leadership, plant leadership teams and plant EHS managers
  • Implementation of EHS/Operational Risk aspect into regular reviews of business and threats and mitigations for Audit and Risk.
  • May be required to participate/support Risk management due diligence in acquisitions / land purchases, Risk management aspects of process innovation.
  • Governmental liaison for new/revised operating permits.
  • Provides support in strategic assessment of environmental legislation (IPPC, REACH, Packaging & Packaging Waste, Essential Requirements, Ozone Depleting Substances, EUETS).
  • Risk management aspects of disaster recovery and business continuity planning at both site and divisional level.
  • Communication on risk management performance to divisional and corporate organizations.
  • Development and management of the divisional capital budget for strategic risk management projects.
  • Alignment and provision of input to the Corporate Risk Management. Ensures full and timely deployment of BALL global EHS initiatives
  • Works closely with the site EHS Functional teams to provide the necessary support to implement the regional strategy and achieve regional objectives
  • Consolidates and reports monthly objectives and KPI’s for Operational Risk and provides accurate data to the divisional leadership.
  • In conjunction with the regional and local Operational Risk organizations oversees the Fire and Property Engineering programs for all Aerosol sites and office locations including; relationships with stakeholders, providing technical expertise, project management support and working with FM Global and corporate/sectors to ensure investment is prioritized.
  • Supports the business by providing materials and training support in the roll out of the relevant EHS programs globally.
  • Oversees the Training and development processes for Operational Risks including the development of training materials, identifying relevant training for EHS managers and carrying out WebEx training as required.
  • Works with sites and finance team to ensure relevant Capex budgets are prioritized, that AFE’s are well prepared and submitted in a timely manner and that costs are being managed in accordance with sector standards.
  • Subject matter expert regionally for CSSTARS, functionality, security access rights, plant location hierarchy, reporting requirements, etc.
  • Works with corporate to ensure all EHS related IT systems are given adequate support and are fit for purpose.

Region Specific Responsible Areas:

Oversees the function globally – Europe and India via matrix reporting and NCA and SA via regional Operational Risk lead as a direct report

Key Stakeholders:

Divisional leadership, Plant leadership Teams, Plant EHS managers, Operational Risk functional leaders in other regions/businesses, Corporate

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor-level qualification in an Engineering or Business discipline
  • Master-level qualification in relevant field is a strong advantage
  • OSHAS or equivalent certification
  • 10+ year of experience in the related field and at least 5 years of successful performance on operational leadership role
  • Capacity to manage and influence multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • Capable of influencing senior leaders & colleagues/peers and pulling them towards the strategic direction for Operational Risk
  • Strong leadership skills and able to demonstrate leading leadership practices
  • Strong ethics and uncompromised integrity driven people and culture builder 
  • Strong Operations mindset with ability to demonstrate operational experience in influencing manufacturing leaders
  • Outstanding experience and knowledge of Operational Risk environments
  • Fluent English, another language an advantage
  • Proven and successful track record in leading dispersed teams across multiple locations and cultures/languages
  • Holds strongly to key principles – is courageous – but not rigid or inflexible in approach
  • Comfortable in working with ambiguity – influencing without direct authority
  • Strong achievement motive
