About Embroker

Embroker is the insurance company the industry said would be impossible to create. Founded in 2015, Embroker has already been named one of the innovators shaping the future of finance by Goldman Sachs and one of the startups disrupting a trillion-dollar industry by CNBC. Headquartered in San Francisco, Embroker has additional offices in Chicago, Boston, and Belgrade.

Our team is a diverse group with extensive experience in insurance, engineering, product design, sales, and marketing. We work hard, we have fun solving difficult problems, and we’re pushing the boundaries of what was thought possible in our industry.

We're looking for talented, obsessive people to join us in building the world's first next generation insurance company. Interested in helping to reinvent an industry? We'd love to hear from you.

About the position

Embroker is looking for an organized and passionate Scrum Master to join our product and engineering team. This role enables and supports the success of the delivery teams in Belgrade, and drives planning and communication together with the product and design team based in San Francisco and Chicago. Acting as the conduit between these two organizations, the scrum master role is critical to the teams’ and company’s success as we continue to build Embroker’s product offerings.

Job Duties

  • Provide structure and leadership to scrum teams, creating an atmosphere of accountability, transparency and teamwork across disciplines and time zones
  • Facilitating the tracking of their progress on a daily basis through daily standups and other team meetings
  • Deliver useful, timely updates and reports to management that communicate the status of the teams’ efforts and any delays or roadblocks they might be experiencing
  • Address any obstacles to the teams’ success -- whether they arise from process problems, unclear requirements, resource availability, or anything else. Engage product owners and management as needed to resolve.
  • Seek out improvements to the ways in which the team gets work done, implementing changes to processes with care and foresight
  • Plan and facilitate ceremonies and other working sessions and help the team become more self-organized.
  • A passion for organization, process, and process improvements

Required Experience and Skills

  • Strong knowledge of agile mindset and scrum framework
  • Basic understanding of software development and testing terminology, methodology and programming languages
  • The ability to describe and offer examples in previous experience in dealing with story/task estimation, backlog grooming, sprint planning, retrospectives and velocity calculation
  • Extremely strong communication and interpersonal skills; looking for a natural leader and facilitator, someone people can rely on to show up and be available whenever support is needed
  • The ability to act as a voice of reason and authority when necessary
  • The ability to communicate equally well with business people as well as technical people and often become the translator between these two worlds
  • High attention to detail; you are first to notice disparities and issues as they arise and know when and how to escalate them to management
  • Comfort grasping the larger picture as well as the details of specific tasks to effectively communicate status of the work as a whole
  • 1-3 years of agile/scrum experience, preferably as a scrum master
  • BA/BcS degree or equivalent practical experience
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • CSM or similar certification (preferred), or equivalent experience
  • Experience using agile software development tools, specifically JIRA and Confluence are a plus
  • Knowledge of other agile frameworks is a plus
