Position Overview
The Site Buyer is responsible for the procurement of goods and services essential to day-to-day and long-term operations of a manufacturing facility, including capital equipment, services, maintenance-repair-operations (MRO) supplies, and raw materials. This role ensures purchasing decisions are aligned with cost-efficiency, technical specifications, and business timelines—delivering the right goods at the right price, from the right suppliers, at the right time.
Key Responsibilities:
Sourcing & Procurement Execution
- Coordinate with plant operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to review purchase requests and translate needs into effective sourcing strategies.
- Run competitive bids, issue RFQs, and lead price and term negotiations to ensure best-value outcomes.
- Award purchases based on total cost of ownership, supplier capabilities, quality, and risk.
Specification & Compliance Alignment
- Validate that all purchases meet technical and commercial requirements in alignment with internal standards and safety protocols.
- Interface with quality and engineering teams to review and confirm complex specifications, drawings, or datasheets when applicable.
Order Management & Delivery Assurance
- Convert approved requisitions into purchase orders (POs) in the ERP system (SAP preferred), ensuring accurate pricing, delivery terms, and vendor data.
- Track and expedite POs to ensure on-time delivery; resolve shipment delays, quantity discrepancies, and supplier issues.
Supplier Relationship & Performance Management
- Build and maintain relationships with local, regional, and national vendors to support ongoing and emergency needs.
- Monitor supplier performance in terms of cost, service, and quality; conduct periodic reviews and participate in corrective action processes.
Cost and Value Optimization
- Continuously seek and implement opportunities to reduce cost and improve terms through renegotiation, alternate sourcing, or bundled buying.
- Analyze spend and identify trends, anomalies, and savings opportunities; support procurement reporting and cost tracking initiatives.
Compliance & Process Integrity
- Ensure procurement practices align with internal control requirements, audit standards, and company policy.
- Maintain procurement documentation, contracts, pricing records, and ERP data with high accuracy.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- 3–5 years of experience in tactical and strategic procurement, ideally within an industrial, paper, chemical, or manufacturing setting.
- Experience sourcing a broad range of categories: MRO, services, capital equipment, and raw materials.
- Proficiency with ERP systems (SAP preferred), and comfort working in data-driven environments.
- Proven negotiation skills and the ability to manage cross-functional relationships effectively.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
