Main purpose of the job

• To create, develop and revise the Design Documentation for Railway Power Supply projects.

Principal duties

• To work under the guidance and instruction of the senior/principal engineer.
• Observation of company Health & Safety, Environmental, Commercial and Project Management procedures, as relevant to the tasks being undertaken.
• In all activities, to contribute to the development of PB’s technical capabilities in the field of railway infrastructure engineering.

Essential skills

• Fundamental understanding of developing sub-station and switchgear design, and cabling (overhead line) design for flexible operations and maintenance.
• Fundamental understanding of (HV) AC and DC Power Transmission.
• Fundamental understanding of technical issues and constraints at the interface with ESI incoming power supplies to traction, including power quality.
• Designing AC and/or DC system/equipment protection schemes and a good understanding of protection technology, equipment, interlocking and interfaces with SCADA.
• A good understanding of Electro-Magnetic Compatibility impacts and Earthing & Bonding measures/mitigations associated with AC and DC Power Transmission.
• Good knowledge of MS Office software packages, CAD based software, and MATLAB will be taken as advantage.
• Understanding of the structure and hierarchy of drawings and designs (levels, layers, line types, models, seed files, etc).

• High level communication skills in English language including the ability to clearly demonstrate engineering philosophies, principles and designs through written reports and presentations.
• Flexible and dynamic with the ability to develop inventive solutions to difficult problems.
• Highly aware of engineering quality and precision, whilst also having a good awareness of the importance of delivery to programme.
