WSP's Industry team are looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our team.
We are a multi-disciplinary process industries design team that have involvement from concept to completion of projects. Core work is basic and detailed stages, but we get involved with all stages from site master planning up to construction completion, providing our own estimates and proposals support in winning work through delivering the designs not only as part of our own multi-disciplinary team, but often integrated with Clients who we work with very closely.
Our safety culture is second to none and in the high hazard industries that we work in is a critical element of our success.
Core industry teams are generally based in Birmingham, Manchester, Cardiff, Newcastle/Middlesbrough and Glasgow, but WSP have offices in numerous locations and have some flexibility in locations depending on specifics of role.
A typical week would include:
- Providing electrical engineering expertise for industrial projects with particular emphasis on the pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, fine chemicals, food, gas networks and process related industries.
- Establishing client requirements and delivering engineering design solutions.
- Applying technical judgment and resourcefulness to investigations, feasibility studies, concept and scheme designs, detailed design and construction support phase of projects.
- Mainly office based in UK offices but with some UK and possibility of overseas travel.
- Taking lead role in the Electrical department and providing support to others within the discipline as well as setting department standards
We'd love to hear from you if you have:
- Degree qualified in electrical engineering
- Chartered Engineer (MIET)
- Significant experience in electrical engineering design on capital projects.
- Good knowledge and experience of electrical engineering design in fine chemicals, primary/secondary pharmaceuticals and/or Bio-Tech, or gas networks.
- Experience of 11kV/LV fault level calculations and protection studies
- Lighting design experience
- Good knowledge of motor controls including variable speed
- Good knowledge of electrical design in ATEX hazardous areas
- Ideally Experience of having worked within a contracting organisation..
- Good interpersonal skills and able to work as part of a multi-discipline team. Versatile, reliable and resourceful
- Customer focus, commitment to quality management and problem solving.
- Ability to operate as a lead engineer on a variety of projects.
- Ability to effectively engage others to achieve project goals.
- Ability to work in complex organisations in a team environment and develop relationships and rapport with external clients and internal colleagues.
- Willingness to travel within the UK and overseas.
