You are a dedicated Pack member of Embroker’s Compliance Team. As a highly regulated company, Embroker embraces a culture of regulatory compliance. This role reports to Embroker’s Director of Risk, primarily in managing the correct and timely filing of surplus lines documentation, taxes and related fees. You’ll tackle applicable 50-state, plus D.C. filings, learn state filing systems, and liaise with our Pack in ensuring a compliance-forward customer experience.

You will be part of a team where each analyst will be cross-trained in at least one other state grouping to be able to support colleagues on and across teams.

What you will own in this role

Accountability factors, collaboration/ownership breakdown, day to day tasks, high level projects

  • Primary tasks include running reports, completing filings in state systems, investigating and resolving corrections, answering questions from field offices, and collaborating with state insurance departments.
  • Process daily, monthly, semi-annual and annual state filings and ensure all relevant state requirements are being adhered to by Pack Members, including, but not limited to:
    • Due Diligence/Diligent Effort forms
    • White/Export List forms
    • Salesforce case management, task completion
    • Document stamping
  • Assist Pack Members with understanding state surplus lines tax filing regulations, as required (e.g. definitions of Home State, diligent search, export list and disclosure requirements)
  • Communicate with colleagues and clients to collect signed documents needed for filings as needed
  • Timely and accurately complete agency/individual regulatory surplus lines tax filing reports, including $0 filings per state schedules.
  • Partner with the Finance Team to confirm the processing and payments of surplus lines taxes and stamping fees.
  • Communicate with state insurance departments to ensure proper statutory compliance with applicable surplus lines laws and regulations, including, but not limited to:
    • Perform analysis and research of surplus lines requirements and directly work with the state department of insurance and/or stamping offices
    • Respond to audit requests.
  • Participate in projects and other activities, as required
  • Comply with all business defined policies and procedures

What experience we think is the right fit

  • Working knowledge of Surplus Lines Insurance and general requirements for commercial insurance policies.
  • Experience with state surplus lines filings systems, specifically SLIP and ELANY.
  • Demonstrated competency in the comprehension of insurance regulations and statutes, specifically surplus lines tax regulations
  • Able to meet deadlines based on state tax due dates & filing dates
  • Working knowledge of commercial property/casualty coverage, services, and insurance licensing
  • Proficient in your use of applicable technology (Google Workspace, SLIP, Excel, and any other system required by state) - we’ll teach Salesforce if needed.
  • Great communication skills, verbal and written
  • Successfully able to manage working in a team environment as well as independently
  • Analytical and prioritize multiple responsibilities
  • Demonstrate and apply critical thinking skills
  • A high school diploma or equivalent combination of education and work experience
