Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Android Developer to join our team and help build, maintain, and continuously improve an existing production Android application.

This role is focused on practical, day-to-day development: implementing new features, building and refining UI, integrating backend APIs, debugging production issues, and improving an established Android codebase.

You will work closely with US-based engineers and product stakeholders, with most of your time spent writing, debugging, reviewing, and improving application code.

This is not a greenfield or research role. You will be working on a real-world product already in production, delivering incremental improvements and taking ownership of features from development through release.

What You’ll Do Day to Day

• Implement new product features in an existing Android application
• Build and refine UI screens based on product requirements and designs
• Develop modern Android interfaces using Jetpack Compose and/or XML layouts
• Integrate REST APIs and backend services into application workflows
• Work with JSON-based data and asynchronous network operations
• Debug issues identified through QA, production monitoring, and crash reports
• Investigate and resolve edge cases, performance issues, and unexpected application behavior
• Refactor existing code to improve maintainability, structure, performance, and testability
• Participate in code reviews and technical discussions
• Work within an established application architecture and follow existing development patterns
• Coordinate with backend developers when API changes or enhancements are required
• Contribute to improving build, testing, deployment, and development workflows
• Most of your time will be spent writing Android application code, debugging real production issues, and shipping improvements to a live product.

Core Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a production Android application
• Take ownership of features from implementation through release and post-release support
• Ensure new functionality is stable, performant, and maintainable
• Follow Android best practices related to application lifecycle, navigation, architecture, and UI development
• Write clean, readable, reusable, and testable Kotlin code
• Diagnose and resolve production issues efficiently
• Participate actively in code reviews
• Communicate progress, blockers, risks, and technical concerns clearly with the team
• Collaborate effectively with engineers, product stakeholders, and other members of a distributed team

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of professional Android development experience
• Strong professional experience with Kotlin
• Strong knowledge of the Android SDK and Android application lifecycle
• Experience with Jetpack libraries
• Experience developing Android UI using Jetpack Compose and/or XML
• Solid understanding of Android application architecture, such as MVVM, Clean Architecture, or similar patterns
• Experience integrating and consuming REST APIs
• Experience working with JSON data
• Comfortable working in a large, existing production codebase
• Experience debugging production issues, crashes, and unexpected application behavior
• Familiarity with Git-based development workflows, pull requests, and code reviews
• Ability to work independently, take ownership of tasks, and communicate clearly within a remote team
• Good spoken and written English
