Forest Engineer

DPM Metals Inc. is a Canadian-based, international mining company engaged in the acquisition, exploration, development, mining, and processing of precious metals. DPM operates across Serbia, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Ecuador with headquarters in Toronto, Canada.

For the needs of our “Čoka Rakita” Project department in the in the territory of the municipality of Žagubica, we are currently looking to recruit a candidate for the Forest Engineer position.

Role Purpose:

To ensure the sustainable, legally compliant, and effective management, protection, and development of Company-owned forest resources. The role is responsible for forest management planning, inventory, harvesting supervision, timber traceability, forest protection, fire prevention, forest guarding, legal reporting, and rehabilitation of damaged forest areas in accordance with applicable legislation and approved management objectives.

Description of responsibilities:

• Prepare, update, and maintain Forest Management Plans, Annual Forest Management Plans, Forest Operational Projects, and related documentation in accordance with applicable legislation and approved management objectives.
• Conduct forest inventories, field inspections, and assessments of stand composition, tree dimensions, age classes, regeneration, health, and compliance with approved plans.
• Perform tree marking for harvesting, maintain official marking records, and supervise harvesting operations to ensure compliance with approved methods, environmental protection, and health and safety requirements.
• Measure and record harvested timber, verify species, dimensions, assortments, and quantities, and ensure proper stamping, transport documentation, traceability, and preparation of Due Diligence Statements.
• Monitor forest health and identify risks related to pests, diseases, invasive species, drought, storms, fires, and other disturbances, while coordinating appropriate protection and mitigation measures.
• Prepare or coordinate Forest Fire Protection Plans and support wildfire prevention, emergency response, post-fire assessments, and rehabilitation activities.
• Perform or organize forest guarding activities, conduct regular patrols, prevent and report illegal logging, encroachment, theft, and other unlawful activities, and cooperate with competent authorities.
• Maintain the Forest Chronicle, forestry records, databases, reports, and documentation required for inspections, audits, permits, and submissions to competent authorities.
• Prepare Forest Rehabilitation Plans following wildfires, natural disasters, failed regeneration, illegal logging, or other forest degradation incidents, and coordinate the implementation of recovery measures.

Requirements:

• University degree in Forestry or another relevant forestry-related discipline.
• A valid licence for performing professional activities in forest management as a licensed Forestry Engineer is mandatory.
• Minimum of two years of experience as a licensed Forestry Engineer or at least five years of experience in forest management.
• Experience working with logging contractors and communicating with competent and inspection authorities.
• Passed state professional examination and professional examination for obtaining a professional licence.
• Proven technical knowledge and practical experience in forest management within forest management organizations.
• Very good knowledge of Serbian legislation related to forest protection and management.
• Advanced command of English, both written and spoken.
• Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office and functional knowledge of GIS software.
• Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
• Valid driving licence and willingness to travel, work outdoors, and operate in demanding weather conditions.
