Geotechnical Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

To provide the Responsible Contractor and the management with qualified geotechnical analysis and reports, to organise and professionally supervise the execution of all geotechnical works within the scope of the Metro TBM related works, ensuring compliance with the design, technical specifications, applicable regulations and good engineering practice. 

At least 3 years of practical field/contracting experience in the profession.

The ability to be continuously present and to direct the works on site during execution, with an obligation to keep the licence valid throughout the engagement. Licence No. 491 is required.

Candidates are expected to demonstrate a professional profile proven on works of similar scale and complexity. The following experience is regarded as a particular advantage:

• Execution of deep diaphragm walls (thickness ≥ 1.5 m, depth ≥ 43 m) and deep urban excavations immediately adjacent to existing structures;
• Ground improvement — grouting, jet grouting, plain walls and steel sleeves — and TBM launch/reception works and installation of GFRP soft-eye reinforcement;
• Bentonite-slurry technology, tremie concreting, operation of trenching plant, and tolerance and quality control;
• Instrumentation and interpretation of geotechnical monitoring and application of the observational method;
• Knowledge of Eurocode 7 (SRPS EN), the technical regulations of the Republic of Serbia and quality-control systems.
• Further valued references include: at least two diaphragm-wall projects with thickness ≥ 1.5 m and depth ≥ 43 m, a single project of volume ≥ 9,600 m³, coverage of all portal-reinforcement methods, and at least one GFRP soft-eye reference.
• Familiarity with geotechnical software (e.g. GeoStudio, Plaxis) and valid occupational health and safety training are desirable.
• References are preferably supported by employer/engineer certificates stating the role, technical parameters and dates, together with recommendations.
• The ability to interpret ground-investigation results and adapt execution to the conditions encountered.
• Independence at work, the ability to work with team spirit, lead teams and subcontractors, organisational and planning skills, decision-making under schedule pressure, and orderly reporting and communication with the management, the supervision and the Engineer are required.
• Experience on metro and tunnel projects, and on deep urban excavations, is a particular advantage. Command of English, experience in a multinational team and familiarity with FIDIC contract practice are also desirable.

Employer: Power Construction Corporation of China Limited Belgrade Branch, Omladinskih brigada 88b, Belgrade.

Place of work: the Employer’s premises in Belgrade and the project sites; business travel may be required.

Fixed-term employment under the Labour Law of the Republic of Serbia; full-time (40 hours per week).

Salary and other conditions are set by the employment contract, commensurate with expertise and experience.
