The Trend, Reputation, Analysis and Knowledge (TRAK) team is a well-established team, strongly connected to security, emergency, and global risk situations, providing quality and timely analysis of open-source information to support decision-making for crisis response and risk anticipation & mitigation. The team contributes to the understanding of the complex environment in which the ICRC operates by keeping the finger on the pulse of major developments, and emerging geopolitical, humanitarian, and conflict trends. TRAK has a multidisciplinary team in Belgrade providing analytical services such as social listening, harmful information detection, communication performance assessment, as well as thematic & global trends analysis to TRAK’s key clients within the organization.

The International Humanitarian Affairs Analyst facilitates strategic decision-making by providing actionable information analyses, reports, and insights on global events, issues, and trends reported in open sources and which might have an impact on ICRC operations, multilateral engagement, and humanitarian diplomacy. S/He responds to information requests from TRAK clients, working collaboratively with other analysts to leverage various perspectives. The information analyst has a thematic scope and focuses on priority themes such as multilateral events, global humanitarian and conflict trends, and new technologies.

The BSSC is looking for a suitable candidate to fill the following position for the fixed-term contract:

MAIN TASKS

  • Leads on thematic information analysis requests with monitoring, analysis, and in-depth research on a wide range of open sources.
  • Adds value to information by assessing the veracity or quality of information and sources, filtering, connecting the dots, curating, and summarizing key content, adding political reading and contextual knowledge, and making recommendations.
  • Co-leads with the information analyst adviser on regular collaborative analytical products, such as the weekly executive brief, the quarterly reports, and the global risks & trends presentation with a focus on global humanitarian, and conflict trends.
  • Monitors, identifies, and interprets disruptive forces, risks, and emerging trends in the ICRC external environment, studying the relationship between societal, political, and conflict dynamics.
  • Proactively monitors, analyzes, and reports on developments related to the impact of emerging technologies on conflict & humanitarian action. Participates in the “Techplomacy” community of practice.
  • Plays an integral part in TRAK’s collective thinking and analysis efforts by connecting the dots between global external developments and internal information.
  • Effectively coordinates collaborative research efforts that include a thematic perspective with the TRAK colleagues based in Geneva and/or in regional hubs.
  • Co-leads TRAK foresight analyses in close collaboration with regional analysts and the Deputy Head of Unit.
  • Shares best practices and contributes to the team’s capacity building.
  • Supports and replaces other colleagues in the team when needed and relevant.
  • Complies with data privacy rules of the organization. 

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED/CERTIFICATIONS/EDUCATION REQUIRED

  • Master’s degree in communication, journalism, political science, conflict studies, international relations or another relevant field.
  • 7+ professional experience. At least 5 years of professional experience in analyzing open-source data and information to support decision-making, preferably in the humanitarian field.
  • Passionate and very knowledgeable about the humanitarian sector, geopolitics & global conflict trends.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (oral & written).
  • Well versed in using advanced analytical techniques, knowledge of foresight methodologies a plus.
  • Advanced MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint essential.
  • Excellent web-based research skills, including using social listening and monitoring tools.
  • Working knowledge of French, Spanish, Russian, or Arabic is an asset.
