Junior Payroll Specialist
About the role
The Junior Payroll Specialist supports the accurate and timely processing of payroll for our clients, including payroll calculations, payroll tax reporting, and the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and year-end payroll documentation.
The role requires a good understanding of basic payroll principles and relevant legislation, with a strong focus on accuracy, attention to detail, and meeting deadlines. The Junior Payroll Specialist works as part of the payroll team and, with appropriate guidance and supervision, supports different stages of the end-to-end payroll process while continuously developing their technical knowledge and practical payroll expertise.
Key responsibilities
- Independently processing payroll for assigned clients of lower complexity, ensuring accuracy and compliance with agreed deadlines;
- Collecting, reviewing, and validating payroll input data and supporting documentation;
- Performing payroll calculations, including salaries, benefits, bonuses, absences, and other payroll-related elements;
- Preparing payroll reports, payment instructions, payroll tax returns, and other statutory documentation;
- Preparing and submitting mandatory payroll-related reports to the relevant authorities;
- Performing payroll reconciliations and identifying and resolving discrepancies within the scope of the role;
- Managing routine payroll queries and communicating directly with clients regarding payroll inputs, documentation, calculations, and deadlines;
- Maintaining accurate payroll records and employee payroll data;
- Performing monthly, quarterly, and year-end payroll activities for assigned clients;
- Ensuring compliance with applicable payroll legislation, internal procedures, and client-specific requirements;
- Identifying non-standard or more complex payroll matters and escalating them to more experienced team members when appropriate;
- Maintaining confidentiality and ensuring appropriate handling of sensitive employee and payroll data;
- Continuously developing technical knowledge of payroll legislation, payroll systems, and internal processes;
- Collaborating with other members of the payroll team to ensure consistent and high-quality service delivery.
Key requirements
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant payroll experience;
- Good understanding of payroll processes and basic payroll legislation;
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken;
- Proficiency in MS Office, particularly MS Excel and MS Word;
- Knowledge of ABSoft payroll software is considered an advantage;
- Previous experience in a payroll outsourcing or professional services environment is preferred;
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while collaborating effectively within a team;
- Strong analytical skills and a structured, systematic approach to work;
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail;
- Ability to organize workload effectively and meet deadlines;
- Proactive, responsible, and motivated approach to work, with a willingness to continuously learn and develop.
