Key Responsibilities

• Administration and maintenance of Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL Database environments in production and non-production systems
• Installation, configuration, patching, upgrading, and lifecycle management of SQL Server environments
• Monitoring database performance, availability, and health, and proactively resolving issues
• Database performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting using T-SQL and Microsoft performance tools
• Investigating and resolving database performance incidents, including blocking, deadlocks, long-running queries, wait statistics analysis, Extended Events tracing, Query Store analysis, and SQL Server trace flag-based troubleshooting where applicable
• Managing backup, recovery, and business continuity procedures
• Planning, implementing, and maintaining High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions
• Working with SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, Failover Cluster Instances (FCI), Azure SQL Failover Groups, and other Microsoft technologies for high availability and business continuity
• Managing database security, users, roles, permissions, encryption, and access control
• Collaborating with system administrators, cloud engineers, network and security teams, developers, and other IT teams
• Participating in database migration, consolidation, modernization, and infrastructure improvement projects
• Creating and maintaining technical documentation, operational procedures, and standards

What We Expect from the Candidate

We are looking for someone who can independently take ownership of the database platform's operation while also collaborating with other IT teams on complex projects.

From a Senior DBA, we expect the ability to:

• Propose improvements to database architecture, scalability, security, and performance
• Participate in defining technical standards, governance policies, and operational procedures
• Identify and mitigate potential issues before they impact production systems
• Mentor less experienced team members and share knowledge across teams

Required Experience and Knowledge

• Minimum 5 years of experience as a Database Administrator, with significant experience in Microsoft SQL Server
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and related Microsoft data platform technologies
• Experience administering large-scale and mission-critical SQL Server production environments
• Strong knowledge of T-SQL, database design principles, and query optimization
• Experience with SQL Server backup and recovery strategies and tools
• Experience with SQL Server performance troubleshooting, including deadlock analysis, blocking investigation, wait statistics, Extended Events, Query Store, and execution plan analysis
• Experience with Always On Availability Groups, Failover Clustering, and disaster recovery solutions
• Experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, or other Azure data services
• Strong understanding of database performance tuning and troubleshooting methodologies
• Experience with monitoring and management tools such as SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), Azure Monitor, Azure Log Analytics, Extended Events, Query Store, and SQL Server DMVs

• Microsoft certifications such as:Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
• Other relevant Microsoft data platform certifications
• Experience with Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure SQL Database, and Azure Synapse Analytics
• Experience working with Microsoft Azure cloud services
• Familiarity with Azure DevOps.
