We Are Hiring! Senior ECM2 Maintenance Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior ECM2 Maintenance Engineer to join our railway engineering team. The role focuses on ensuring the safe, compliant, and reliable maintenance of railway vehicles, including trains, trams, locomotives, and other rolling stock.

The ideal candidate combines strong expertise in railway maintenance engineering, safety and risk management, RAMS principles, and applicable railway regulations. The successful candidate will contribute to the development and optimization of maintenance strategies, assess technical and operational risks, and ensure that maintenance activities support the continued safety, reliability, and availability of railway vehicles throughout their lifecycle.

Your Responsibilities

Maintenance Engineering & ECM2 Activities

  • Develop, review, and optimize preventive and corrective maintenance plans, strategies, and intervals for railway vehicles and their systems and subsystems.
  • Support ECM2 maintenance engineering activities, ensuring compliance with applicable European railway legislation, ECM requirements, and relevant technical standards.
  • Evaluate maintenance requirements, technical documentation, inspection results, and operational feedback to ensure the continued safe operation of rolling stock.
  • Analyze maintenance data, failure trends, recurring defects, and fleet performance to improve reliability, availability, and maintainability.
  • Support technical investigations, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and the definition and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain maintenance procedures, work instructions, technical reports, risk assessments, and other engineering documentation.
  • Assess proposed maintenance changes, deviations, and extensions of maintenance intervals based on technical evidence and documented risk assessments.

Railway Safety, RAMS & Risk Management

  • Identify and assess hazards and risks associated with railway vehicle operation, maintenance activities, technical changes, and system degradation.
  • Perform or coordinate safety assessments, hazard analyses, and risk evaluations relevant to maintenance engineering and ECM2 activities.
  • Support the development and maintenance of hazard logs, safety analyses, and safety-related technical documentation where required.
  • Define and evaluate risk mitigation measures and verify their effectiveness in cooperation with relevant engineering and maintenance teams.
  • Apply RAMS principles and relevant railway standards, particularly EN 50126, to support safe and reliable railway vehicle lifecycle management.
  • Ensure that safety-related findings, technical risks, and maintenance requirements are appropriately documented, assessed, and addressed.
  • Support verification and validation activities related to maintenance modifications, technical solutions, and safety-critical components, where applicable.

Coordination, Compliance & Continuous Improvement

  • Collaborate with ECM1, ECM3, ECM4, RAMS, system, electrical, mechanical, and software engineering teams to ensure consistent implementation of maintenance and safety requirements.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, workshops, maintenance operators, and other stakeholders regarding technical issues, maintenance execution, and defect resolution.
  • Participate in technical reviews, audits, risk assessments, fleet performance reviews, and discussions with customers and external assessors.
  • Support the preparation and review of technical evidence required for regulatory compliance, maintenance approvals, and ECM-related audits.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of maintenance processes, engineering standards, technical documentation, and fleet management practices.
  • Ensure that engineering deliverables meet applicable regulatory requirements, internal quality standards, and customer expectations.

Your Profile

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Railway Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 7 years of professional experience in railway engineering, rolling stock maintenance, safety engineering, RAMS, or a closely related field.
  • Solid understanding of railway vehicle systems, maintenance processes, and the operational requirements of rolling stock.
  • Good knowledge of ECM processes, particularly ECM2 maintenance development and engineering responsibilities, and the applicable European railway regulatory framework.
  • Knowledge of railway safety and RAMS principles, including EN 50126 and, where relevant, EN 50128 and EN 50129.
  • Experience with technical risk assessments, hazard identification, failure analysis, and the definition of mitigation measures.
  • Experience in developing or reviewing maintenance plans, maintenance intervals, technical procedures, and engineering documentation.
  • Ability to analyze technical failures and maintenance data and translate findings into practical engineering and safety improvements.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and coordinate technical activities across multidisciplinary and international teams.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in an ECM organization or in a role supporting ECM2 maintenance engineering activities.
  • Experience with RAMS methodologies and tools such as FMEA/FMECA, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and structured hazard analysis.
  • Experience with safety cases, hazard logs, or formal safety assessments.
  • Familiarity with the European railway regulatory framework, including Regulation (EU) 2019/779 and Directive (EU) 2016/798.
  • Experience working with railway operators, maintenance workshops, rolling stock manufacturers, or international railway projects.
