Company

Taurus Metal is an emerging mining group with operations in Serbia and a head office in the UK.

Location

Belgrade, Serbia, with periodic travel to mine sites in Serbia as operations ramp up.

Reporting line

Reports to the Group Finance Director. The role will work closely with the current office manager, external bookkeeper and tax advisers, and is expected over time to help build a broader in-house finance capability.

Role purpose

The Senior Finance Manager – Serbia will be the country finance lead responsible for building and running the finance function for the Serbian business as Taurus Metal moves through ramp-up toward mining operations expected to begin in 2027. The role is intended to be predominantly hands-on, with an approximate split of 70 percent detailed finance and accounting work and 30 percent operational business partnering.

This position is suited to a finance professional who combines strong Serbian accounting knowledge, mining finance experience, and practical ERP implementation capability in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

Key responsibilities

Financial accounting and reporting

  • Own day-to-day accounting for the Serbian entities, initially alongside the external bookkeeper and progressively taking over transaction posting and close processes.
  • Deliver timely month-end reporting, reconciliations, accruals, fixed asset accounting, intercompany balances, and management accounts for the Serbian operations.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis across head office and mine-related activities in Serbia.
  • Maintain disciplined use of the chart of accounts, dimensions and coding structures to support management reporting and future ERP design.
  • Statutory and regulatory compliance
  • Support compliance with Serbian GAAP, tax rules and local statutory obligations, working closely with the external bookkeeper who will initially continue to manage taxes.
  • Build detailed working knowledge of Serbian VAT, payroll contributions, withholding taxes and mining-relevant compliance requirements over time.
  • Act as the main day-to-day Serbian finance contact for external auditors and advisers, under the oversight of the Group Finance Director.

Mining finance and operational support

  • Support finance activities for a mining business in ramp-up, including reentry into old mines ahead of targeted mining start-up in June 2027.
  • Apply sound judgement to the capitalisation of exploration, evaluation and development expenditure, including IFRS 6 and IAS 16 considerations.
  • Partner with operational teams on cost control, cost per tonne, production reporting, capex tracking and budget performance.
  • Provide commercial and financial input on supply chain and contract cost issues where relevant, while working alongside the procurement lead and other departmental leads.
  • Contribute to accounting for royalties, rehabilitation and mine closure obligations.

Systems and process development

  • Play a key role in the fresh implementation of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central for the Serbian business.
  • Act as both a finance power user and implementation lead, helping configure, test and roll out finance processes and controls in the new ERP environment.
  • Help design practical finance processes, controls and reporting structures suited to a growing, entrepreneurial mining company.

Candidate profile

Essential experience and qualifications

  • Approximately 7–12 years of relevant finance and accounting experience, including experience at finance manager level or equivalent seniority.
  • Strong experience in the mining sector or other project-based industries is considered an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of Serbian accounting practices and the Serbian regulatory environment, with the ability to support both local requirements and group reporting needs.
  • Proven hands-on finance capability across accounting, reporting, budgeting and operational support.
  • Practical experience with ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics 365, Business Central, SAP or similar, including implementation, configuration, testing or power-user responsibility.
  • Professionally recognised accounting qualification such as ACCA, CPA, CA, or a Serbian equivalent.
  • Serbian and English language skills (CEFR rating B1/B2)

Desirable experience

  • Experience in a company transitioning from project phase into production or operational ramp-up.
  • Strong understanding of mining-specific accounting matters such as exploration and development capitalisation, rehabilitation provisions and production cost analysis.
  • Experience working in small or medium-sized entrepreneurial organisations where systems and processes are still being built.
  • Experience in working in an international environment is preferred

Personal attributes

  • Comfortable working in a hands-on role and taking ownership in a lean finance environment.
  • Able to build finance processes from scratch and work effectively in an evolving business.
  • Strong communicator, capable of working with non-finance operational colleagues as well as external advisers and group stakeholders.
  • Commercial, practical and willing to travel periodically to Serbian sites while remaining primarily Belgrade-based.
  • Motivated by working in a smaller, entrepreneurial business rather than a highly corporate environment.

Compensation

Competitive net monthly salary in Euros, commensurate with experience with Short and long term incentives.

Application

Please send a CV and a short covering note summarising relevant Serbian finance, mining and Microsoft Business Central experience, together with notice period or earliest availability.
