Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior Design Architect who will lead the creative design direction of high-impact projects, oversee design excellence, and translate visionary design into buildable, technical, beautiful and sustainable homes. This role requires someone who thrives in a tech-oriented, fast-paced, cross-functional environment, with strong skills in both design artistry and technical delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead design from early concept through to detailed design: form, space, massing, facade, materials, daylight, and spatial experience.
• Define and uphold strong design standards; ensure coherence of design across all deliverables (visualizations, models, renderings, technical drawings).
• Mentor, guide, and manage design team members (design architects, junior architects, designers), nurturing creativity, design thinking, and attention to detail.
• Collaborate closely with software, robotics, fabrication, sustainability, engineering, and construction teams: ensure design feasibility and integrity, resolving conflicts and integrating emerging tech/ processes.
• Oversee development of sophisticated visualization and design tools (AI tools, parametric/modeling, generative design) to push innovation.
• Lead client/stakeholder design presentations, represent design rationale, collect feedback, and iterate design.
• Engage with regulatory, permit-approval, zoning, code compliance; ensure design meets safety, accessibility, sustainability, resilience standards.
• Participation in design quality control (QA/QC) reviews; ensure design detail accuracy, constructability, materiality, and performance.
• Contribute to the strategic design vision of Cosmic: research new design/tech/materials trends and integrate them into practice; innovate with robotic fabrication, modularity, and sustainable systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture (or similar).
• At least 8+ years of professional experience in architectural design, including leading design on substantial residential, mixed-use, or custom home projects.
• Strong portfolio showcasing both high design quality and technical resolution; experience with ambitious, well-crafted projects.
• Proficiency in design and visualization software (e.g. Rhino, SketchUp, Revit, parametric tools, rendering, AI tools) and comfort with digital workflows.
• Deep understanding of construction technology, material systems, fabrication, detailing, and methods (including manufacturing or robotics/fabrication integration if possible).
• Solid knowledge of building codes, zoning, permit processes, sustainability standards, and resilience best practices.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and presentation skills; ability to articulate design vision to both internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Experience in mentoring / leading design teams; able to balance creativity with delivery, timelines, budget, and technical
• Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and ability to thrive in fast-evolving, multidisciplinary settings.
