Chemist - Publication Ethics Support

Position Overview

The Publication Ethics Support staff plays a vital role in upholding the integrity of scholarly publishing. This position involves providing guidance and support on ethical matters, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and collaborating with stakeholders to address ethical concerns in the publication process.

Job Description

  • Supporting and assisting the publications ethics department in various publication ethics issues
  • Main responsibilities are to review, investigate, and work with stakeholders to resolve potential ethical violations in accordance with guidelines
  • Handle ethical concerns, including allegations of plagiarism, authorship disputes, duplicate submissions, and data fabrication or falsification
  • Provide effective and tactful consultation to Editorial Development staff, Editors, and editorial office support, providing recommendation and suggested language when appropriate
  • Ensure adherence to ethical guidelines, such as those established by COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics)
  • Create and deliver training sessions or resources on publication ethics for internal teams and external collaborators
  • Act as a liaison between authors, editors, reviewers, and other stakeholders to facilitate ethical decision-making
  • Communicate resolutions and recommendations clearly and professionally

Essential skills:

  • Background in Chemistry (preferable degree: MSc or PhD in Chemistry)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal abilities
  • English proficiency
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills for case management
  • Experience in publishing or editorial processes is a plus
  • Computer and Internet Information literacy
  • Strong work ethic
  • An ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Commitment, persistence and dedication in performing tasks
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Integrity and impartiality in handling sensitive issues
  • Proficiency in managing confidential information
  • References available upon request and previous experience in writing papers present an asset.
