Dundee Precious Metals is a Canadian-based, international mining company engaged in the acquisition, exploration, development, mining, and processing of precious metals. DPM operates across Serbia, Bulgaria, and Ecuador with headquarters in Toronto, Canada.
For the needs of our “Čoka Rakita” Project department in the in the territory of the municipality of Žagubica, we are currently looking to recruit a candidate for the Environmental Specialist position.
Role Purpose:
Perform environmental and hydrogeological monitoring activities, coordinates general waste and mining waste management activities, controls implementation of environmental protection activities on all sites and during all DPM activities as well as activities performed by contractors.
Description of responsibilities:
- Follows hydrogeological monitoring activities for all DPM projects in Serbia;
- Coordinates and control activities of contractors engaged on hydrogeological monitoring;
- Collects and records data on hydrogeological monitoring;
- Suggests and control measures for prevention of surface and groundwater pollution;
- Control environmental monitoring activities, including air, surface and ground water monitoring, noise, and vibration management;
- Collects and records environmental monitoring data;
- Review the Reports on environmental monitoring prepared by engaged laboratories;
- Participate in permitting processes related to environmental protection, forestry and water management;
- Follows changes of the Serbian legislation related to environmental protection, forestry and water management;
- Controls activities on general waste and mining waste collection and storage;
- Coordinates general waste and mining waste sampling, testing and communicate with the licensed laboratories engaged for these activities;
- Coordinates general waste and mining waste delivery to the operators with valid waste management license;
- Collects and store documents on waste transport;
- Keeps daily waste records and prepares annual waste reports;
- Participate in preparation and periodic reviews of the Waste management plan;
- Participate in developing, maintaining, and updating environmental documents (policies, procedures, instructions, templates, etc.) which are part of the integrated Environmental Management System;
- Follows next year's program(s), based on the analysis and report of the previous one; the program covers environmental protection and rehabilitation measures, including commitments made to third parties, anticipated environmental impact of their implementation, respective departments in charge and deadlines;
- Participates in the preparation of proposals for prevention of actions, which may impact public health or the environment, including proposals based on the results of environmental analyses. Oversees the implementation of such proposals;
- Conducts regular environmental inspections.
Requirements:
- University degree: environmental protection, engineering, mining, geology, hydrogeology, biology;
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in jobs related to environmental protection, waste management and monitoring;
- Applicable requirements of the Serbian legislation regarding environmental management and protection;
- Environmental legislation and best international practices;
- Good command of English;
- Environmental management skills;
- Environmental protection knowledge and skills, including implementation of preventive and protective measures;
- Environmental hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to work environment;
- Occasional Exposure: Outdoor conditions (Wet and/or humid conditions, high or low temperature, wind), mud, dust, loud noise.
