Senior Systems & Network Administrator

Role Summary

Deliver expert systems and network administration for workloads running on VMware vSphere, AWS and Vultr, and for the LAN/WAN infrastructure that connects our offices. You will secure and optimise mixed-OS servers, configure Fortigate/MikroTik networks (HA, dual ISP, SD-WAN, IPsec), and keep documentation, monitoring and DR plans up to date.

Key Responsibilities

• Server & Virtualisation – Patch, harden and tune Linux and Windows VMs on vSphere; maintain self-hosted open-source platforms for ticketing, collaboration and internal portals.
• Cloud Services – Design and manage resilient AWS environments (VPC, EC2, ELB, S3, snapshots) while supporting existing Vultr resources, applying encryption and strong IAM controls.
• Network & Voice – Configure Fortigate and MikroTik firewalls in HA; implement VLAN segmentation, dual-ISP fail-over, IPsec tunnels, SSL-VPN and SD-WAN overlays; apply QoS for cloud VoIP.
• Office Infrastructure – Audit and optimise switching, Wi-Fi and cabling in every location; produce accurate topology diagrams, asset inventories and change records.
• Monitoring & Continuity – Deploy and maintain a unified monitoring stack; run backup, restore and DR tests that meet agreed RPO/RTO targets.
• Messaging & Domains – Provision users in Zoho Mail and Google Workspace; manage DNS, SPF/DKIM/DMARC and SSL certificates.
• Documentation & Mentoring – Publish runbooks and post-incident reviews; guide junior technicians and share the on-call rotation.

Required Skills & Experience

• 7 + years administering Linux environments plus Windows experience.
• Advanced VMware vSphere skills (clusters, snapshots, resource controls).
• Proven expertise with Fortigate and MikroTik in HA, multi-ISP designs, IPsec and SD-WAN.
• Experience integrating cloud VoIP/SIP services and tuning network QoS.
• Strong AWS knowledge and familiarity with Vultr.
• Scripting/automation ability (Bash or Python).
• Networking fundamentals: VLANs, BGP/OSPF, STP, LACP, IPv6.
• Demonstrated success in backup, recovery and DR planning with thorough documentation.
