Software Engineer
Position Summary & Key Areas of Responsibility
Work closely with the Release Management team based in Serbia and The Netherlands, creating and deploying software packages to circa 28,000 systems to various Retail & ATM clients across Europe; tasks include scripting (command line, visual basic etc), fault fixing, preventative maintenance, development projects and maintaining software consistency across various environments. All Deployments must fulfil client expectations with primary focus being that all targeted systems are left in an operable state. Business critical deployments may require overnight support where applicable
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Actively administer the supported deployments to meet and strive to exceed SLA’s and KPI’s
- Deal with complex issues and problems and resolve quickly whether to fix a production problem or implementation of a new solution
- Support overnight deployments where applicable
- Confirm deployments are successful and target devices are operational
- Ensure operations are continually improved to remove complexity and risk
- Perform root cause analysis of recurring deployment failures and/or issues, working towards an effective solution
- Takes ownership for the effective performance delivered by nominated supplier services
- Set up monitoring thresholds and alerts to achieve a fix before fail way of working
- Undertake assessments of solutions to ensure that they meet the standards that are set
- Proactively share knowledge with peers ensuring that all deployments are delivered efficiently
Basic
Qualifications
- Excellent English communication skills both verbal and written
- Comprehensive knowledge of Windows 2000, XP, 2003/2008 Server (SQL Server knowledge is also preferred but not essential)
- Command line scripting, Visual basic, MSI creation and execution
- Detailed and current knowledge in the subjects of the role
- Excellent customer service manner
- Ability to design processes suited to a sophisticated IT operation
- Ability to work un-supervised and deliver on time
- Ability to think methodically and logically and communicate well using spoken and written word
- Proven success as a professional technical worker in similar technical areas
- Has a broad knowledge and understanding of IT concepts and architectures with proven experience
- Has expert awareness of problem solving procedures used for business-critical IT incidents, and an awareness of their implications for a retail business
- Awareness of delivering IT solutions within an ITIL Framework
- Works collaboratively with a range of people to support the wider business agenda
- Knowledge of device build & client automation across multiple platforms
- Ability to package applications using client automation frameworks and supporting toolsets
- Experience of supplier engagement and management
- Knowledge of CA USD, HP Client Automation and Microsoft SCCM
