Structural Design Engineer

We are looking for a: Structural Design Engineer

Who will be performing structural analysis on aluminum panel systems. The Engineer’s main role will include the completion of engineering design calculations for various panel systems used on projects throughout Canada and the United States.

FURTHER TASKS MAY INCLUDE:

• Aiding in the development of new panel systems that must balance a number of competing interests (structural, thermal, moisture protection, fire propagation, economical, ease of installation, etc.)
• Developing custom Excel spreadsheets for analysis including VBA macros
• The position reports to the R&D and Engineering Manager in Canada, and is based in our Belgrade Office

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Prepare engineering design calculations based on the building and design codes relevant to the project’s location
• Ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English when preparing technical reports and participating in or leading project team meetings.
• For projects in the U.S., liaise with local consulting companies to ensure  project documents (drawings and calculations) will be sealed by consultant registered in project’s jurisdiction
• Communicate engineering design requirements for each project to drafting team to ensure projects are drawn and detailed adequately
• Manage multiple ongoing projects at a time

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
• Working experience in the curtain wall industry, architectural products industry, or related field is an asset
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and  Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience with finite element analysis
• Experience using design and simulation analysis capabilities of SolidWorks software would be an asset
• Experience with CFMF (Cold Formed Metal Framing) design is an asset
• Experience with automation tools (e.g., VBA macros, Python scripting, and Rhino/Grasshopper workflows) is an asset.
• Experience with structural design software such as Risa3D, CFS, RFEM is an asset.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment
• Ability to conceptualize structural and architectural details in 3 dimensions
