Have you ever thought about the people who influenced your career in early stages, while you were pursuing your degree? Can you remember the time you were a student?
People say that the best time of your life is the time during your studies. You have the flexibility of a lifetime to pursue all your hobbies, to learn, to give to the community, gain some important skills, meet great and wise teachers, mentors, professors and colleagues who will shape your professional future going forward.
Thanks to the synergy of Clarivate colleagues, last year we came up with Clarivate Futures program that rolled out with a pilot program in our Belgrade COE. On February 1st, 2022, we welcomed our first Clarivate Futures Interns in Marketing department in Serbia. Following one quite fun and thorough recruitment process, we managed to identify 6 students and recent graduates to be the first Clarivate Futures in our Belgrade COE. With the aim to get new perspective, inspiration & potential, we are more than happy to welcome Nina, Đorđe, Antonije, Anja, Andrea and Dorotea to the team.
It’s no secret that each generation brings with it their own unique approach & ideas, and therefore in the spirit of Student Volunteering Week, we asked our students – what’s your experience with volunteering and what would you like to participate in during your internship at Clarivate?
“My most recent experience with volunteering is giving psychosocial support to refugees and other marginalized groups of people in our community, through organization IAN (International Aid Network). I have been volunteering in that organization for four months now and my experience is very positive. As a psychology student, I feel moral obligation to use my knowledge (within the range of my competence) to help people that need support in crisis moments of life. I would like to continue to collaborate with users of services in IAN during my internship. I just hope I’ll have enough time and energy to participate in this volunteering program.” Nina
“I had a beautiful experience volunteering with my high school in Hungary, I participated in various conferences and activities. The most significant one for me was a charity basketball tournament, where I was a part of the organizational team and we gathered over 2000 EUR for sick children. In Clarivate I hope to participate in any activity that could be helpful to community local or global.” Djordje
“I have volunteered in two instances that I can remember. First one was with Red Cross when Obrenovac (small town near Belgrade) was flooded, and I was taking care of the logistics and helped older volunteers. Second one was at the Faculty of Philosophy two years ago when Science seminar was held but, due to the Covid - 19 restrictions, my volunteering was limited to online logistics, unfortunately. I would be happy to volunteer in Clarivate, of course, and I would like to participate in activities which involve meeting my colleagues and organizing some events or activities. “ Antonije
“I volunteered in May 2014, when Serbia was facing floods, known as “May flood”. I would like to participate in any project connected with the sustainability if time allows me.” Anja
“When it comes to volunteering, I think I'm quite advanced in that area. During my undergraduate studies, I worked as a volunteer journalist on the Red Cross info portal, as a student demonstrator on the Business Informatics course and as the head of quality control at Megatrend University. At Clarivate, I'd love to learn as much as possible about marketing all together, and I believe that working in the thought leadership team will help me in this process.” Andrea
“After my first time volunteering in my hometown when I was a teenager I have realized that I really enjoy helping out people and working in a team for greater cost which made me continue to seek out opportunities where my help is needed. I have volunteered in donating goods for children in need, donating goods for people whose life was affected by natural disasters and I have volunteered to work in organizing summer carnivals. I find very interesting and insightful helping out in different ways so I would love to contribute to any volunteering event that I can.” Dorotea
In the end, my question for you would be - what can we learn from this text, what can we learn from our Clarivate Futures? Do you think something has changed since the time you were a student?
